Getting in front of a camera and showing your face to the whole world can be intimidating and scary. In this episode, Roben-Marie and Sandi share why the art of getting your face on camera is necessary and how to perfect it.

Videos that show your face are hard to show to the world especially when you haven’t done it before. But they are also a great way to show up and make connections on social media.

Roben-Marie and Sandi share how they got comfortable with being in front of the camera over the years.

Sometimes there’s a thin line between being professional and being real. The way to figure that out is by being an expert in what you’re teaching. 75% of the time you should be professional- where you’re polished and representing your brand. On the other hand, 25% of videos you’re putting out should be real and relatable. But remember, the most important part is that you’re visible to your audience.

It is important to know that when you’re putting out videos of yourself, you’re attracting the right people. An audience that relates to you, trusts you and is interested in what you have to offer. Being in front of a camera gives you an audience that ‘would want to have coffee with you’.

If you’re uncomfortable, start with a no talk video that way you don’t mess up. Just film a flip through of a favorite journal or show a short tutorial.  Practicing everyday should be what you’re aiming for though you don’t necessarily have to post everything you record. If you end up posting ‘embarrassing’ videos, you can always delete them. Give yourself about 25 practice videos before you start being comfortable in front of a camera. It just takes time!

When recording, be calm and if you mess up just stop, pull yourself together and continue from where you stopped. This will make editing so much easier. This however, is a journey and you won’t be perfect the first time- just be yourself and with time you’ll get there.

Instagram stories is a spontaneous feature that has changed video presentation for the better- make use of it.

Remember that if you are being paid to present a video or a class on camera, you should show up polished. Put your best foot forward.

The bottom line is, to just do it, get your face on camera. Maybe fake it till you make it?
