I came up with this project quite by accident. I had a canvas painted black for another project. It sat on my desk for a while and some of my Roben-Marie Smith supplies and stuff got piled on it (I'm not the tidiest maker).

It gave me the idea to create on a canvas using the supplies. I love how it turned out! Inspiration came out of the chaos and I created this canvas for my first design team project.

I started by adding some book text. When you're not sure where to start, book text is a great way to go. It's visually appealing and I love the little peeks of text and the occasional found word popping out.

When going through any project, I try to make it symmetrical. If I add something in the upper left corner, then I try to add something in the lower right corner. As you can see from the video, I added the book text in the upper left corner, then the sticker strips along the bottom and side, having them intersect in the lower right corner to balance it out. The stamped owl image on top of the Art Pops card is off center and the half circles help to balance the left side out. Same goes with the embellishments I added. I put the leaves and the flower in the upper right corner and the butterfly in the lower left.

"White space" is not my strong suit, so to cover the space in between the circles and the owl image, I add a tag. Tags are great fillers as well. And I could not leave it blank (see above about my inability to leave white space - haha) so I stamped the heart image.

By adding the bumpy edge border on the left side using the mixed media papers, it covers some of the empty space. if I didn't add that little border your eye would go straight to the black. This why your eye flows over the canvas, taking it all in.
