How to make a book cover journal
Looking for a different way to make a journal?
I’ve got you covered…no pun intended. 😂
The 100 Day Project is in full swing and I have committed to creating 100 pieces of book cover art. I am using an assortment of book covers and plan to use a variety of mediums…everything from collage to painting.
For this tutorial I was thinking that it would be pretty cool to use the book cover as the “backer” for the journal. The journal is adhered to the front of the cover and ties on the side with ribbon.
Here are a few questions I am being asked:
Q: Why do you have so many book covers?
A: I began teaching mixed media courses in person as far back as 2005. I used a lot of books pages for the projects I taught and purchased and thrifted books of all sizes for these courses. I removed the pages but kept the covers. I figured one day I would do something with them.
Q: On which side of the book cover are you creating?
A: I plan to work on whichever side feels right. If the cover is a pretty color, I might use that side and leave a little border.
Q: How do you separate the covers from the book?
A: I use an X-ACTO Precision Knife. I show how I separate the covers from the book pages in the beginning of the video tutorial
